Client Brief and Expectations : Enernoc –now Enel X is an consulting firm tha provides energy related solutions. They wanted their India office to be a cost effective, multi-functional space with a cheerful vibe.
Concept and Design Approach :
Solution –
The office is housed in a relatively older building in the heart of Mumbai. The structure had a beautiful waffle slab that was covered by a gypsum ceiling by the earlier tenant. We however decided to open up the false ceiling and expose the slab in its original state. The exposed ducts & MEP services add an industrial loft feel to the space.
The space is planned for both open office & a few private cabins for the team managers. Keeping in mind the need to keep the design cost effective yet vibrant, the main idea was to use bright paints & graphics to make the space lively.
The workstations have fabric panels that have a monochromatic scheme, using different shades of the same colour in a pixelated design. This helps in breaking the monotony of seeing the same colour throughout the open office. A discussion area in the open office with bright colour pouf seats adds a splash of colour. The glass screen used to divide the discussion space from the workstations also works as a writing surface.
The graphics in the space are based on two themes- energy & Mumbai; from the red double decker bus to the iconic red double decker bus.
The meeting rooms are kept simple with some bright accent paints & writing paint along the entire surface of wall. This keeps the space clean & easy to maintain.
The cafeteria features concrete finish floor tiles with the open waffle slab. Track lights along the ribs add an interesting element. The cafeteria also features a large fish tank brought in from their previous office. The graphics carry on the Mumbai theme with images of “cutting-chai” and the “dabba-walla”.
